IELTS Speaking Practice

Part-1:
What’s your favourite color? Why?
My favorite color is green. Green is the symbol of youth, color of our green paddy fields, our national flag. Moreover, we have green trees, fields, fruits all the year round.

Do you like the same color as you did when you were younger? Why and why not?
I used to like red color in childhood. Red attracted me as it’s an eye catching color. Most of the toys I played, my school bag, shoes are of red color. Now don’t like it as makes me babyish.

What can you learn about a person the color he/she likes?
Choice of color indicates people’s personality, attitude and behavior. Sometimes rude and rough people like to wear deep color such as red. Black people like green, light color yellow and red color. White people like blue color. Romantic people also like blue as their favorite color. Green is the olive branch, symbol of peace.

Do any colors have a special meaning to your culture?
Yes, red and yellow colors are worn by folk music artists, band music stars. Hindu and Buddha people wear yellow and red color too. These are colors of festivals and fairs. People wear white paijama and panjami during Eid festivals, prayers, burial ceremony and other religious festivals. Black is worn on our national mourning day 21st February, our language martyrs day.

Why do you think some people use the net for shopping? Why doesn’t everyone use it in this way?
Some smart and young people use the net for online shopping. People can choose their products through specific website and charge debit/credit cards via the site to purchase any product. Then the product is delivered by its manufacturer. Some people don’t know how to use the net for online shopping and find it difficult to use it. Therefore, they don’t use it.

Describe a song or a piece of music you like.
You should say:
What the song or music is
What kind of song or music it is
Where you first heard it
 And, explain why you like it

Part-2:

I like the song and music of “Ekuse February”. Music is composed by Altaf Mahmud. It’s our national mourning song especially produced to pay tribute to our language martyrs who sacrificed their lives on February 21, 1952 to save Bangla language from the colonial Urdu speaking West Pakistan. I first heard it in our school assembly in mike and in loud speaker and I was in class five. The song/music is very melodious and always rings in my heart. Then I was so impressed and sad that the music made me cry. Now, I hear it every year during each February of a year. It’s the song of our glorious past. We become the first nation who sacrificed their lives to save mother tongue. Therefore, the United Nations recognized 21st February as the International Mother Language Day. 





Part-3:
What kinds of music are popular among young people in your culture?
Band music: rock, pop, hip hop, rap etc modern music is getting popularity day by day. However, we have our classical modern song, Tagore and Nazrul song, some folk music which are evergreen songs.

What do you think influences a young person’s taste in music?
Music, composition and lyrics generally influence the taste in music young people like to listen to. Modern musical instruments such as key board, electronic guitar, drum, harmonica etc also have an impact on young music lovers. Hindi music videos are very popular among youngsters. Now listening to music by mp3 players is a fashion to young people.

Tell me about any traditional music in your culture?
We have traditional music such as classical songs( Tagore and Nazrul songs), folk music, spiritual songs, vatiali (songs of boatman). Village people also like soap opera (jatra) music and old movie songs. We used to listen to our Bangla film songs, now we seldom hear it.

How important for culture to have musical traditions?
Traditional music is very important for saving the cultural identity of a nation. Our traditional folk songs, spiritual songs, classical songs reflect our norms and practices, religion rituals, beliefs, social norms, education, our heritages, festivals etc. countries rich in music sector develop in the long run.

Why do you think countries have national anthem or song?
A national anthem shows and describes a country and its culture. It also shows unity and solidarity among people. It develops patriotism and nation-wide consensus. We feel very proud when our national anthem is played in international football and cricket fields and Olympics.
